Greece delayed mandatory e-invoicing for all Greek entrepreneurs

In April 2018, the Greek Ministry of Finance (Υπουργείο Οικονομικών) announced its intention to implement mandatory e-invoicing for all Greek entrepreneurs from January 1st, 2020. However, according to the latest news from Greece, the introduction of mandatory e-invoicing will be delayed for now and not introduced before April 2020.

As they point out from the Greek Ministry of Finance, the main goals of why they decided to introduce mandatory e-invoicing and real-time reporting are to fight against fraud and fake invoices issuance. It is expected that these measures will contribute to the reduction of the VAT gap and simplification of the invoice issuance process for all Greek entrepreneurs, but also to help Ministry with more efficient and targeted tax audits.
